Goodreads Quote of the Day for Friday
Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.
Alphonse de Lamartine (born October 21, 1790) published his first collection of poetry, Méditations poétiques, in 1820, establishing his reputation as a key Romantic writer of the French literary movement. He was not fixed on one genre, however. He’s also known for his historical works, including accounts of Russia and Turkey as well as a political narrative around the time of the French Revolution (Histoire des Girondins). In 1848, he briefly led France’s Second Republic, which adopted universal male suffrage and abolished slavery in French territories.
