The ring and the confession

On the day before he leaves, Horace’s aunt reveals to him that she has the same illness that took his father’s life.  

She offers Rosa a ring that her mother wore.  It contained a scarab with an ancient Egyptian text on it.  She told her that the text literally said, ‘the flight of Horus’.  It’s a metaphor for the passing of wisdom through life itself.  

What does Rosa do?  What does Horace do?
