Overall Poor to fair
My name is Daniel Griffing. In June of 2009 I went to explore Eden, Texas with a digital camera in hand. Eden is a city in Concho County, Texas, United States. The population was 2561 at the 2000 census. Approximately one-half of the population consists of inmates housed at the Eden Detention Center, a for-profit prison operated by Corrections Corporation of America under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. My time spent in Eden was cut short when I made the mistake of taking a photograph of the Eden Detention Center. How was I to know that the armed guard in the watch tower would brandish a rifle toward me for doing so. I was standing on the public sidewalk when I took the picture and heard the guard yelling, ordering me to quit taking pictures. When I saw that a rifle was pointed down toward me, I promptly did as requested. Immediately, I entered my vehicle and got out of town. I felt as if there was an A.P.B. out on me, on the lam. A few days later I contacted Lee McDaniel, (Facility Public Information Officer) and I reported the incident. I also asked for an explanation of why this had happened and was told that he would research it and get back with me later. Apparently he is still researching the issue 15 months later. Upon my researching after the fact, I learned that the water being given and used by the inmates was radioactive. The water system has been declared unfit by the E.P.A. since 2006. The EPA mandates that all citizens be informed as such. I inquired if the inmates had been informed. Again, Lee McDaniel had to research the topic and that he would get back to me. Deja Vu, 12 months later, no response. I have called corporate headquarters for CCA in Tennessee asking questions, only to have been told that I need to contact Facility Public Information Officer, Lee McDaniel. I will not stop my inquiring. Something is rotten in Denmark.
