Florence is brought up under the sheltered world or a possessive mother and religion (Southern Baptism).  It has claimed her and unbeknown to her, she is beginning to stake her claims as well.  She is claiming individuals who cannot be physically claimed, but they can be claimed figuratively in her letters to them.  Geography is very important in her method.  The farther away they live the easier they are to claim.  They can not repudiate her assertions.
