Politics is Hollywood for ugly people

Parallel the current political revolution in Egypt with some part of Adam's history.  In addition, Adam will have left Iraq which signifies a pattern that the Arab world must no longer be puppet regimes.  They must learn to be politically self reliant.  They must go through their own self discovery.

Texas pride can be seen as the opposite of reluctant revolutionary nationalism.  Texans fought for land that was purchased from the ailing Mexico.  The pride part was born the day each and every Texan and American felt the blood spilled in the battle of the Alamo.

What is Egypt's Alamo?

Texas politics can be a good example of how to criticize American style democracy.  They are known to be flawed because of the peer pressured small town backdrop under which they are held.  The legacy of the revolution, the Alamo and former nationhood are a constant reminder that the vote is always about us versus them.  Us is always your neighbor and the status quo.  Them is always the threat of breaking that status quo.

Rose tried to become class president, but failed because she ran on a platform of equal rights for women.  It failed because the other students were falsely influenced by the other candidate.  He was the son of the librarian that convinced the student body that there would be one restroom.  That women would be allowed to play football.  But even more scary was the thought that men could participate in home economics.  The girls wanted no part of this.  It was their domain.  They held all the power here and were not about to give it up.

Parallel events in Egypt.  The Muslim Brotherhood represents a constant losing battle with revolution.  From its early days, it had always aligned its principles with the revolution at hand.  When power finally changed hands, the Brotherhood was disposed of.  Thrown in the trash, members arrested and they had to go underground.

The Arab Spring for Egypt represents a revolution begun by young turks, but slowly changes course when it becomes clear that no leader would emerge among them.  Perhaps the potential candidates were too afraid because they knew Mubarak was still alive and possibly able to wield his influence as to have them murdered.  Or maybe too much focus was placed on getting rid of Mubarak and not enough was placed on putting someone in his place.

Adam will discover that his father was Egyptian when he discovers that the man who raised him was sterile.  When George discovers that Rose is pregnant, he knew that she didn't really love him, but rather that she was trying to cover something up.  Egypt must move forward with its leader whether the citizens like him or not.  The growing pains of Egypt's democracy will be to find the balance of Islam in terms of their Egyptian identity, one that has thrived on tourism since the hieroglyphs were deciphered and the age of Egyptomania came about.  Is the new Egypt one in which women and children are continually left behind because religious fanatic politicians want to make themselves look good?  Or will they actually try and do some good?
