The four stories of love
Transcription
Alright, it's Wednesday the 15th in the car on my way to work trying to think about what the entire broad, broad theme of Flight of Horse is about and a kind of brainstorming the idea of that it's about death as life not as life as death. And what I'm trying to explore here is death happens in so many different ways. This is a microscopic event. An idea can die. Life can turn a course and that branch or that vector that it would have taken will die. So essentially what is born at that moment is a ghost of what would have been. Essentially you can almost describe it the way Dickens showed a scrooge or many different ways. It's more than that. It's like you know. So when you see for example your parents and your mom or your dad and you think wow you could have married someone else and you actually think I could have been someone else but it wouldn't have been you but a ghost is born at that moment and a ghost of that other self is born. And that's where Horace goes. He dies deep into the world of the what ifs. The unborn they're not I mean they died so quickly and were never born. I think I have to. I really like this idea right now. Horace himself doesn't discover that doesn't know this immediately. He discovers it after you know residing in you know it's kind of in detention. It's not you know it's kind of like a house arrest but in a beautiful library where he's allowed to read from all these different works but can't leave until you know he comes up with until he finds his bar essentially. So the major story is about Horace killing himself. His bar abandoning him because he killed himself and descends to the underworld is detained because he does not have his bar. And it's told that he must find his bar or else he will never be allowed into the underworld the afterlife. So that what he's really doing is discovering you know that like that I mean we live with we live with this concept of a self whether we like it or not. We must accept it. We must accept who we are. Know thyself be yourself can only be. And so how does Horace find his bar well he accepts who he is. So maybe he explores the what ifs of his life. The scrolls in the library allow him to experience the story as if it was reality. The words weren't merely words they were experiences. Upon each sentence I was endowed with a new memory. I inherited the life of the story and thus made it my own. So that's more like it. I'm pretty sure it's a new but he tells him well. I don't have a bar. I can't be allowed in without a bar. So what can you do at that point? He has to give up things in order to find his bar. With a fancy yes to give up his phone. He has to give up his shoes. His clothes. So he gives up his phone first. Maybe the way it's he has to give up gold. Maybe there's something in his phone that's valuable there is to give up. Silk. What else does he have to think? Let's give up his shoes. He's given a token to find a story. He can't put it back once he takes it. All that's written on the bookmark or the leaf hanging off of these scrolls is one word. So that word has to catch his eye. There has to be a story of youth. The story of birth is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. Gravity is a physical force. It can turn the rational into your rational. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. The story of a child is the story of a child. Love can only be discovered in youth. Love cannot be recognizable. Love is not thought. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. Love begins with a fight and ends with a sad but happy resolution. Love is a connection. Love is a connection. me back to the first story which is the birth. I'm going to say that we're definitely the horse's mother. Yeah, we introduce horse's mother through the story of his birth. We introduce horse's father through the story of him accepting through the story of him breaking up with his fiance and chasing horse's mother. Then we introduce the story of parenthood. Through, okay, so I'm having another thought here about how the technique of, you know, horse actually discovering these individual stories, if that would be... I think so when horse is in the afterlife, he doesn't realize that he's actually surrounded by all the the ghosts of his life, the death that walks around him every day. And that would be anything from the thought of his father wanting to have a child with someone else. Or his mother wanting to have a child with someone else or in the case of the third story, which his parenthood is where finally horse appears as a young man but is... you know, out of place. Yeah, so... the... you know, his third story is when his father has died unexpectedly in museum man. And he is in foreign country and his mother... Well, what are you guys doing? Are you kidding me? So anyway, sorry about that, I saw some cards. But anyway, yeah, so where was I? Horse is, you know, takes a family trip with his mother and his brother and the parenthood is the fact that it's the loneliness of parenthood. It's the... the duty, the loneliness of duty. At this point, you are now a servant and as a servant, you're alone because you're soul because you have a singular responsibility, which is to take care of a child. And life at that point, life, you know, everything that you would kind of presume about life changing for you. Gravity is now... Gravity does not always go down. And what I mean is like one could imagine metaphorically speaking, gravity does not go down because you have to teach a child about gravity. The child does not necessarily know about gravity and that's why your world goes upside down. You have to become a teacher without you, that child will be... nothing. I mean, it will not survive. So you are then the caretaker of a child. And so how does that teach you about life? Well, it teaches you that, you know, as much as you take for granted your own life, think of all the effort that was put in so that you could just be where you are today. So that's definitely something... Yeah, so think of the moments when a child discovers that they have to be careful on the playground or not to eat dishwasher detergent. Yeah, don't run with scissors, that kind of thing. So yeah. Or how to ride a bike. Anyway, yeah, and finally, the fourth kind of story. It is about learning all of this. It's about wisdom, it's about life coming back to itself. It is a finally understanding that death is a new life, that death is birth. You know, the memory of something that has died is born. We live with memory every day. We're just... We struggle when we discover that the tangible world has left us or the companion or the, you know, a person who played a role in our life now must become a memory. Yet we forget that we deal with memory in the intangible every day as if it were a person. So yeah. And that's old age, that's... It's the wisdom where it's okay to die. Everything will survive around you. The world continues, and it's not about you. Although you are just as important as the next person. Maybe the fourth story is up, you know, just the presence of love. And it's... You know, there's nothing more than that. It's simply present. It's not away from you. You know, there's something to be said about knowing that love is there. Not just showing love, not just sacrificing, not giving birth, not just being a mom, not just, you know, getting married, not just being... Not just, you know, teaching your kid, but it's being there. Being there is love. Love arrived at work. This was a good brainstorming session. I've got to record this because I mean, hopefully I recorded it. I've got to actually write it down.
