Anna Sewell

When Anna Sewell (born March 30, 1820) was 14 years old, she slipped and severely injured both of her ankles. She was never able to stand or walk properly again. Because of this, Sewell grew dependent on—and very fond of—horses, which inspired her only published novel, Black Beauty.
