Freud killin it as usual...

In my shop, this is now the only bit that gets used with my aluminum dovetail template jig. I had previously purchased a different, lower end, yellow brand bit of the "same" parameters but could not get tight dovetail fit.
Ordered this bit and am now able to create perfect fitting joints. Apparently the other bit was off by a few thou and was removing too much material.
At this point, I have now built countless dovetail drawers using this bit it and it is still tearing through Hard Maple like the day I got it.
Tried and tested. Freud makes some of the best router bits out there, hands down.
This 1/2" SH x 3/4" D x 14° Dovetail Bit is another fine example of this.

I like using 1/2" diameter bits in my router when possible

This router bit was purchased to work with the Microjig Dovetail clamps. Bit has stayed sharp after cutting several dovetail slots in clamping tables and different power tool jigs. I like using 1/2" diameter bits in my router when possible. Easy to set up, stays sharp so far. Would buy again and would not hesitate to buy other Freud router bits as needed.

Not the manufacturing quality expected

Router bit was used in light router table application, putting a 7.5 degree edge on 1/4” ash slats, and after about 30 minutes of operation the dovetail cutting head snapped off the 1/2” shank. Examination of the brittle fracture surface reveals crack initiation at notch likely created by residual machining tool marks in the shaft to cutter radius. I should have known, always go with the Whiteside bit, which is now on order.

Hard to beat a Freud bit. But some of the cheaper ones are getting real close.

It's a weak craftsman who blames his tools, but you get what you pay for

All router bits are not created equal. Results on my dovetail jig were erratic and ugly. The size of the bit I had was a little shy using a dial caliper, and had a 1/4" shank. Replaced it with this bit, note the 1/2" shank. A tried again. Smooth as butter, crisp, and little to no tear out, even in plywood. Cranked out 12 drawers over a weekend and they came out looking fantastic!!

Sometimes it is the tool ;-) Freud, Whiteside and Amana bits for me these days. Gave the rest away.

Great Quality and Clean cuts

Very nice dovetail from Freud, delivers nice clean cuts. Love the thicker shank over the 1/4 shank of the same 3/8 diameter, but the 1/4 inch shank isn't a Freud bit. However, it still produces less vibration over smaller shank, resulting in a cleaner smoother cut. Would recommend.

Works well for my needs

Used with my ancient P-C router and dovetail jig to make some drawers - been using it for many years now with no problems. I do not use it for production so not sure how it will hold up for a pro shop, but for my intermittent needs, it’s been fine.

Excellent value for the money

I dont buy generic brand bits and stick with good brand bits as they tend to be more well made and last longer. I'm using this to route a dovetail in my shop fixtures to use with the MicroJig dovetail clamps and it works very very well.
