Motives and 1st Chapter
Who is Shahira Ziyad? (Her name is a play on words with Shahrazad) Shahira is just an overly imaginative young girl who caught between her developing identity as an American Western woman and her traditional Muslim faith.
Why is she in the shop known as 1001 Gifts? She has just had second thoughts about showing up to a meeting with Harun (whom she met online) for the first time. While she was in the shop, a man walking by notices her (he really is Harun) and steps inside to talk to her. He starts to ask about the various items in the shop and she offers very good descriptions (and prices) for each of them. The man seems impressed and decides to buy something from her. After he leaves, the owner of the shop returns (or emerges from the back room) and Shahira quickly leaves without a word. She returns the next day with the money only to discover that the item was never for sale. She promises to make things right and return the item back to the owner. (what is the item?)
(not so sure about this) Why does she attempt to steal? What does she steal? She darts into a small gift shop, known as 1001 Gifts and is suddenly enchanted by the wonders it has to offer. As she looks around, she discovers an object that has significant sentimental value (possibly something that was lost) and attempts to take it.
How is she caught? She is caught on tape by one of the cameras on the premises.
She makes a deal with the woman who runs the shop.
Is the story entirely fabricated by the girl? (This adds a surreal aspect to the story)
