Happy birthday, Jay McInerney! The American novelist, who found fame with Bright Lights, Big City, his generation-defining depiction of fast-living in 1980s Manhattan, turns 62 today. McInerney studied writing with Raymond Carver at Syracuse University and later declared the legendary shot story writer “changed my life irrevocably”. His other novels include Story of My Life, Brightness Falls and last year’s Bright Precious Days.
