Poet W.D. Snodgrass (born January 5, 1926) came of age in an era shaped by literary modernists, but he went in a different direction. His early poems dealt with the end of his first marriage and his first book, Heart's Needle, won a Pulitzer Prize and helped popularize confessional poetry.
