The French writer Colette (born January 28, 1873) was preparing for the Broadway adaptation of her bestselling novel, Gigi, when she saw a relatively unknown Audrey Hepburn walking across a hotel lobby. She immediately decided to cast Hepburn as the lead, and is often credited with "discovering" the star.
