The afternoon sun began to rest behind the late Miocene outcropping of rock, blanketing the young palm trees with shade. It was a modest toll for the hospitable breeze from the North that carried a new caravan of travelers into the therapeutic gates of the Siwa Oasis. As the group passed through the gates, children emerged out of dark passages and palm groves, greeting the travelers as they ran behind the shadow of the motor coach. Its engulfed them and eventually they slowed to a halt, tired and smothered with sand and exhaust. The coach continued just beyond the paved roads of the town and settled on a clearing of the desert that met an array of lanterns terminating at the entrance to the camouflaged citadel of the ecolodge in the distance. The term ecolodge seemed a bit contrived for the posh that hid within the mud brick walls of the resort simply known as Sibyl.
