The story starts out with the reading of the minutes of the Flight of Horace Society by a disparate group of early teenagers from around the globe.  Scenes of each student reading include some place iconic to their country.  The scenes transition from the far reaches of the globe and move westward ultimately descending upon a small town in Texas.    

This will introduce Florence and her role as director of the society.  The first order of business will be to induct new members and consider possible candidates for membership. 

The Flight of Horace Society is a secret group of like minded students across the globe that participate in collective reading of the stories.  They all met through various degrees of association with Pen Friends International, an organization that paired students with their peers across the globe in hopes of creating a wider global dialogue.  

The newsletter consists of their art and stories based on the local culture, news and current events in their countries.  The FOHS has national chapters to which officers are appointed and whose main duty is serving as gatekeeper of all mailing list activities.
