[Florence opts to send her first letter through the Pen friends service in order to remain semi-anonymous. She keeps up the anonymity until college. Her family moves to Lubbock so that she may attend college, but she is unable to complete her second year. She decides to move out and live in a boarding house. She has to work to pay for the room and board. She ends up moving again (into an apartment) because she is forced out of the boarding house. She reaches her lowest point when she realizes that she’ll no longer be a student, or an international corresponded, or a world traveler.]
A little bit about myself. As you may have already noticed, I have chosen to send my letter through the Pen Friends service. I hope you don’t mind, but would you mind playing a little game of “Fact or Fiction” with me? You see, I love a good mystery and I thought “What would be more fun that trying to solve the mystery of the anonymous pen-pal?". [tie this in to her wishes to be a mystery writer]
I live among words and clouds. Or at least that’s what is feels like because I’m surrounded by fields of cotton. I guess you could say that I live in the clouds.
