The Great Raindrop

Many suns have died since I was a little man.  There was one night, after my first hunt, when my spear could not fly far enough to reach the buffalo, when the moon arose from the great sea above, my father made these words for me.  He spoke of how this land was born.  He spoke of how this land was born from the first raindrop.  It was when the days are wet after ice melts.  But this drop was made of water and the red water inside our skin.  This drop contained all living things.  When the sun looked at our land, it was like you, a little land.  The skin of the land was smooth like the skin of a baby.  There were no trees, rivers or mountains.  And when that drop fell from the great sea above, it made a big splash and all the red water stained the land.

We can see where the ink or the splash was made.  We can see where the splash began but we do not know what caused it.  Some say there is a world beyond ours where the ink came from.  But we cannot see it.  We can imagine it’s existence.  But one thing is for certain.  The splash, when it occurred marked the beginning of time for our world.  You see the splash caused the stain and the stain is what we all live by.  Without it we do not exist.  And the stain is neither good nor bad.  The result of some stains go on to live long and beautiful lives.  Whereas the others appear as painful accidents or simply ignored markings on the wall.  When the stain was made, when the ink hit the ground, our soil.  That was when things started to grow.  In some areas of our world the soil is very rich.  And from it, from the ink staining grew beautiful forests, rivers and valleys.  Whereas other parts of the world seem to resist the staining.
