Symbol story
The symbol story is a myth that explains how to write the eye of Horus symbol. FOH use a modified version of this symbol. The versions differ by country and region but they are more or less the same.
It starts with the story of a king out on a hunt for buffalo but the land is dry and all the buffalo are gone. His people had lives in this place for many generations. In fact the caves of the first comers were still inhabited up above where the river once stood. The first comers lived hard lives, having to endure raids by hunting four walkers, other two walkers, cold moons and dry suns. They would suffer but somehow the land would eventually bring fire for the caves and tree eating four walkers to hunt. Their life remained this way until the builder arrived. He spoke in a different tongue and had to learn the tongue of this new land. He wouldn’t speak of where or how he came, he just arrived, built a hut out of straw, and made the little trees grow next to the river.
He showed the people how to eat from the little trees and they were happy. So happy that they gave him one of their daughters and let him stay. This is how the village came to be what it is today. This king is a direct descendant of the builder.
The king eventually gives up and spots a flight of birds of all types flying above together. One of the men throws his spear at them in anger and it sends one of the bird to the ground.
The flock tries to save the fallen bird but it is no use. The king had devoured the bird. Then suddenly (after eating the bird and swallowing its spirit) the king is able to understand the birds. The no longer sound like indecipherable chaotic noises. Instead they give off the most beautiful sounds, words and phrases.
The king begins to weep at the beauty of this and in remorse he throws himself at the mercy of the flock.
The flock of birds forgive the king and tell him that he must not hunt them ever again. In return for this they will carry him to food and water. (Metaphor for how birds guide us to land, etc.)
Flight is represented by birds or a group of ‘letter f’ symbols leaning to the right. Essentially italicized.
And the birds befriend the humans and carry them across the land and in return the humans vow never to raise their spears or arrows at them.
And so the combined story is now portrayed by this symbol.
