The cave as a restaurant sets the stage for the young couple’s discussion about food.  The couple is fearful.  They stay in fancy hotels that remind them of their home.  Their surrounded by invitations to immerse themselves in something different but they continue to choose the familiar.  They finally agree to leave the comfort of the hotel and the poolside and have dinner in a nearby cave.  Their discussion of food and culture is a metaphor for Plato’s cave.

The girl follows the boy all the way to Houston.  She has no idea why but can’t resist the compulsion.  She learns that he’s getting on a flight to Cairo.  She buys a standby ticket and ends up getting the seat next to him.
