I met Uncle Jimmy who is the owner of a stretch of land known as Honolua Fishing Village.  It is now a spot for tourists who want a semi-secluded spot swimming hole just north of the Ritz Carlton.  It is an abandoned boat dock and filled with chickens running everywhere signs that say stay on the path no photography respect our deceased. Uncle Jimmy sits at a picnic table with a donation box that says Mahalo on it and remind people that they should be respectful of the place obey the rules don’t throw any rocks and stay on the path. The site was also a potential hotel site but Jimmy was able to fight corporate interests and keep the land for himself. He also has his great grandmother buried on the land and reminds you that here you’re walking near his family.
