Trailhead - Beaten by father in first grade

My teacher and principal were telling me that I wasn't listening or following the rules.  I knew it wasn't a good sign when I was called into the principal's office.  She called my father on the phone and he spoke in a stern voice with me and reminded me that I should listen to the teacher and follow the rules.

Although I can't remember exactly, I want to say that it was that night when my father beat me with the belt.  My mother didn't know nor did my teachers or school principal.  I was shocked to my core.  The pillar of trust and safety for me was gone.  He beat me.

But perhaps this worked.  I no longer misbehaved.  And he would eventually become my soccer coach, a guide for me as an 8 year old.  But this didn't last long.  He would eventually die a year later.  I never got to speak to him about the day he beat me.  I never got to ask why, as an adult.  The memory was frozen in the mind of that 7 year old kid.
