John Robinson Jeffers (January 10, 1887-January 20, 1962) was an American poet known for his work about the central California coast, where he settled in 1919 with his family after studying forestry, medicine, and other subjects. Most of Jeffers' poetry was written in classic narrative and epic form and a constant theme of his writing is nature’s fierce beauty and strength. His works include the 1954 book of verse Hungerfield and Other Poems, which won the Pulitzer Prize.
