Owen Wister (born July 14, 1860) is remembered for his bestselling 1902 cowboy novel, The Virginian, which took a romantic view of the American West and was inspired by his travels there, beginning in Wyoming in 1885. He dedicated the book to Theodore Roosevelt, a former classmate of his from Harvard University.
