Mine is not an obedient writing. I think that literature as any art has to be irreverent.
Cuban novelist Reinaldo Arenas (born July 16, 1943) was imprisoned under Fidel Castro’s government for being openly gay and publishing his works abroad without consent. He fled to the United States in 1980 as part of the mass emigration of Cubans known as the Mariel boatlift, but he took his own life a decade later. His autobiography, Before Night Falls, was made into a film directed by Julian Schnabel and starring Javier Bardem.
