Happy birthday, Carl Hiassen! The Hoot author helped make Christopher Paolini's book, Eragon, an international bestseller. Hiassen read the epic fantasy tale when it was self-published. He recommended it to one of his editors at the publishing house Alfred A. Knopf, and—after a round of editing and a new cover—Eragon was re-released a year later. Paolini's books have since sold over 35 million copies.
