Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Clement Clarke Moore is credited as the author of the famous poem A Visit from St Nicholas, more commonly known as The Night Before Christmas, which was first published in 1823. In the poem, a father, woken by noises, witnesses Santa Claus arriving on a reindeer-pulled sleigh and climbing down the chimney carrying gifts. Moore, a professor of Oriental and Greek literature, has a park named after him in Manhattan, New York.
