Happy birthday, Ellen Goodman! 1980 was a good year for the American journalist—she won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary AND the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award. Over the next three decades she continued to pick up more impressive honors, culminating in 2008 when she received the Ernie Pyle Award for Lifetime Achievement from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
