Maria is the first to notice Mrs. Peacock's unusual behavior. She grew unsettled by her teacher's lack of focus. It reminded her of how her father would describe the foreman just before he made his getaway leaving the farm hands without their wages for the season. She grew distrustful. She feared for herself and her classmates. Once she heard the cries of Lla Llorona uttered by her teacher she was certain that she had to leave. This was how they get rid of you. How they convince you to accept your place in the home, in the field, in the toilet. She was not going to let this happen. She had to warn the others. She whispered to her classmate that they had to warn the principal . Mrs Peacock has the eyes of a mad woman and must be taken away. Her classmate thought she was just angry for the poor grades she received in History. I want to graduate so I'm not getting involved.
