Muddy waters and evolution

[1:00 AM] Does history repeat itself?  Is music appreciation like studying evolution?  Primordial ooze, muddy waters, Florence decided not to eat the catfish.  Our songs evolve just as we do.  Our relationships come in many forms similar to those described in symbiosis.

[4:00 PM]  While they were cooking the catfish, Florence was busy at the kitchen table reading from one of her library books.  Florence asks her mother if she knows why history repeats itself.

Her mother asks her why she wants to know and Florence explains that she has to come up with a pen name for herself.  She didn't want to come up with a random one, but one that has shreds of her in it.  A derivative.  A cover for her name.  [What's your cover going to be?]  Someone asks her this.  Maybe Cynthia.

Her mother gave one of those pragmatic "street smart" responses: "Well no one can know everything, so I guess much of what we learn gets lost.  Besides, what if I told you what lessons I was learning at your age.  Would you try to apply them now.  No, so we're already losing.  You'll write a new version of the same story, event, song whatever.  Perhaps one day your kids will do the same."
