The 54th San Francisco International Film Festival is about to begin on April 21 and navigating the guide can be pretty overwhelming. This year nearly 200 films are represented at the festival. They are curated by the San Francisco Film Society and serve to carry the message of a wide variety of important social causes ranging from civil liberties, human rights and free speech to LGBT, gender, race and immigration issues.
Naturally we would love to see all the films, but there’s just no time. Instead we’ve reviewed the titles and decided to share some of our favorites here:
Huge fan of the site, several your blog posts have definitely helped me out. Awaiting updates!
I always heard about the San Francisco International Festival but i have unfortenantly haven’t had the time to go. I really appreciate the benefit and reasoning for the festival. My brother is gay and i really respect that. I just hate the fact that many can’t understand that point. During the festival i can see they show.. up too 200 films. Some being documentaries and some just being nonfictional novels. My favorite film would have to be “The Green Wave” a documentary filming the young hard times of Iranians. Looking at many of the reviews for the Film festival! It sure looks like a great success! I hope to be able to attend one day and share my great experience!I only live 45 min away from San Francisco! Great way to bring awareness.
This festival pays a brilliant tribute to these artists, and does an amazing job of bringing numerous different cultures together to celebrate a common interest. The number of artists and producers represented at this festival is astounding, and it really illustrates the fact that it’s not just the mainstream, over-advertised movies that are important to society. I really believe that more people should take the time to look into these films represented at this festival in order to broaden their horizons and realize that a film doesn’t have to be based on an action hero or a couple’s love life in order to have value.
This site is very important because it gives the social view of whats going on in the world. We need more sites like this because the international film service gives input on what is really going on. However many people may not know whats going on and this could really show the real insight in different issues that need to be addressed. so Thank you
