Teaching myself the Cyanotype process and I'm loving. Like any new venture (a.k.a. 'life'), you have to be ready to experiment and learn from your mistakes. The first two solid blue prints were my first prints. I didn't wash them enough and let them dry outside in the shade. There was clearly enough UV in the shade to react with the remaining emulsion on the paper effectively 'painting' over the image. Oh well. The third image is an example of forgetfulness when creating the digital negative. I simply forgot to invert the image in Photoshop. It's still a cool effect and might serve a purpose later. The fourth image was my first 'success'. I was able to see the positive image in the print. It's overexposed and the negative didn't have enough contrast or middle tones. Finally, on my fifth try, I was able to expose a portrait of my daughter. It was about 4 minutes in direct sunlight in the middle of the day. I washed it in distilled water and added a few drops of hydrogen peroxide for additional toning. I'm also very happy with placement of the negative on the emulsion. I really love how the image extends into the edges of the emulsion where the brushwork is quite husky.
