The park rangers told us to remain in the car as the bison edged closer and closer to the road. As I sat there reveling in the “good view” that I had of the bison in the valley, I noticed that I was watching other people more than the grazing buffalo. I wondered how far they traveled to get here. What were their politics? We’re they trying to stay safe during the pandemic? What does it matter? We may have our differences but we’re also very similar. Just like myself, these travelers were visiting this wonderful valley to witness an animal that was saved from extinction. My thoughts began to wander back to a time when indigenous tribes such as the Crows, the Blackfeet, the Bannocks, and the Shoshones walked across the valley and hunted the bison out of a need to survive. They revered these beautiful creatures. It truly is the Buffalo Nation’s Valley. Thank you for letting me pass briefly on your land.
